1. About these terms
These Membership Terms and Conditions apply to applications for, and renewal and use of, membership of Resource Therapy International Inc. (RTI).
By submitting a membership application or renewal, the applicant confirms that they:
- have read and agree to these terms;
- support the purposes of RTI;
- agree to comply with the registered Rules of RTI;
- agree to comply with applicable RTI policies and professional standards; and
- have provided information that is accurate and complete.
These terms should be read with:
- the RTI Rules;
- the RTI Code of Conduct;
- the Privacy Policy;
- the Refunds and Cancellations Policy;
- the Complaints and Feedback Policy;
- the Logo and Badge Use Terms; and
- the Maintaining Recognition requirements, where applicable.
If these terms are inconsistent with RTI’s registered Rules or applicable law, the Rules or applicable law will prevail.
2. Membership applications
Submitting an application and paying a membership fee does not guarantee acceptance.
Applications are considered by RTI in accordance with its registered Rules. RTI may request reasonable evidence to verify:
- identity;
- Resource Therapy training and graduation;
- trainer recognition;
- organisational status;
- professional registration or credentials, where relevant; and
- eligibility for the selected membership pathway.
An application is not considered complete until all required information, evidence and payment have been received.
Membership begins when the application has been approved and the applicable fee has been paid, in accordance with the RTI Rules.
If an application is not approved, any membership fee already paid will be refunded.
3. Membership pathways
RTI currently offers four annual membership pathways.
| Membership pathway | Current annual fee | Principal eligibility |
| Associate Member | AUD $49 | People interested in supporting or learning about Resource Therapy |
| Clinical Resource Therapist | AUD $99 | Completion of recognised 10-day Clinical Resource Therapy training |
| Trainer Member | AUD $149 | Current recognition as an approved Resource Therapy trainer |
| Organisational Member | AUD $395 | An eligible Resource Therapy training organisation accepted by RTI |
Eligibility requirements and benefits are described on the RTI membership pages.
The names of these pathways describe the relevant eligibility and benefits. Formal legal rights, including voting and meeting rights, are determined by RTI’s registered Rules and any valid resolutions made under those Rules.
Payment for a particular membership pathway does not independently create a voting right or another governance right that is not provided by the RTI Rules.
4. Membership benefits
Membership benefits depend on the pathway selected and continued eligibility.
Benefits includes:
- RTI news and association updates;
- access to member information or resources;
- eligibility for an RTI directory listing;
- eligibility to use an approved RTI member badge;
- professional recognition within the RTI community;
- opportunities to submit recognised training dates;
- member discounts for selected RTI activities; and
- participation in relevant RTI member activities.
Associate Membership does not include a professional directory listing.
Organisational Membership include links to up to three eligible trainers associated with the organisation, subject to RTI’s verification and directory requirements.
Benefits:
- are personal to the member or approved organisation;
- cannot be sold, assigned or transferred;
- may be subject to additional eligibility requirements;
- may require a separate application or verification process; and
- end or become unavailable when membership expires, lapses, is suspended or ceases.
RTI may improve or vary membership benefits. RTI will not materially reduce the essential benefits of a current paid membership period without appropriate notice and, where required, an appropriate remedy.
5. Professional status and recognition
RTI membership is membership of an international professional association. It does not, by itself:
- constitute registration as a psychologist, psychotherapist, counsellor or health practitioner;
- grant a licence to practise;
- replace professional registration, insurance or supervision requirements;
- guarantee recognition by an employer, insurer, regulator or government agency;
- authorise the use of a legally protected professional title;
- guarantee employment, referrals, clients or income; or
- represent an endorsement of every service offered by a member.
Members are responsible for understanding and complying with the laws, professional standards and title restrictions applying in every country or jurisdiction in which they work.
6. Membership fees
Membership fees are payable in Australian dollars unless otherwise stated.
The applicable fee is the fee displayed when the application or renewal is submitted.
RTI may change membership fees for future membership periods in accordance with its Rules. Fee changes will not ordinarily affect a membership period that has already been paid.
Payments are processed through Stripe or another payment provider selected by RTI. RTI does not ordinarily receive or store complete payment-card details.
Membership fees are subject to the RTI Refunds and Cancellations Policy and any rights that cannot be excluded under applicable consumer law.
7. Membership period and renewal
Membership is provided for 12 months from the date the person or organisation joins or renews, subject to the RTI Rules.
RTI membership does not renew automatically. Members must actively renew and make a new payment.
RTI may send renewal reminders, but members remain responsible for renewing on time and keeping their contact details current.
Grace period
RTI may provide a 14-day administrative grace period after the renewal date.
During this period, RTI may mark the membership as awaiting renewal. Any governance or voting rights during this period remain subject to the RTI Rules.
If payment has not been received by the end of the grace period:
- the membership may be recorded operationally as lapsed or non-financial;
- public directory listings may be removed or hidden;
- access to member benefits may cease;
- permission to use RTI membership badges or logos may cease; and
- trainer or organisational listings and event-posting privileges may be suspended.
Describing a membership as lapsed for administrative purposes does not necessarily mean that legal membership has formally ceased. Formal suspension, resignation or cessation of membership is governed by the RTI Rules.
8. Member responsibilities
Members must:
- provide truthful, accurate and current information;
- notify RTI if their contact or eligibility information changes;
- comply with RTI’s Rules, Code of Conduct and applicable policies;
- act respectfully towards members, trainees, clients, volunteers and representatives of RTI;
- avoid false, misleading or exaggerated claims about Resource Therapy;
- represent their training and credentials accurately;
- use professional titles only where legally entitled to do so;
- maintain any professional registration, insurance or other requirements applicable to their work;
- protect the security of member login details;
- not allow another person to use a personal member account;
- respect RTI’s intellectual property; and
- notify RTI if they no longer meet the requirements of their membership or directory category.
A member must not state or imply that RTI guarantees, supervises or accepts responsibility for their independent clinical, educational or commercial services.
9. Directory listings
Clinical, Trainer and eligible Organisational Members may apply for a directory listing where this is included in their membership benefits.
A directory listing is subject to:
- verification of eligibility;
- continued financial membership;
- compliance with RTI’s professional and directory requirements;
- provision of accurate information;
- consent to publication of the selected information; and
- compliance with any applicable professional-title restrictions.
Members remain responsible for the accuracy and legality of their listing.
RTI may correct, temporarily hide or remove a listing that:
- is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date;
- may mislead the public;
- uses a title unlawfully;
- no longer meets eligibility requirements;
- relates to a lapsed or non-financial membership; or
- is reasonably subject to an eligibility or conduct review.
Temporary removal of a public listing during a review does not, by itself, constitute a final disciplinary finding.
Directory inclusion does not guarantee referrals, enquiries or professional recognition.
10. Training and event listings
Eligible Trainer and Organisational Members may submit recognised Resource Therapy training or event information for possible publication.
The member is responsible for ensuring that the information is accurate, current and not misleading.
RTI may decline, edit, delay or remove a listing when reasonably necessary to:
- correct an error;
- maintain consistent presentation;
- confirm recognition or eligibility;
- prevent misleading claims;
- comply with law or RTI policy; or
- protect the integrity of Resource Therapy.
RTI’s publication of a training event does not make RTI the provider of that training unless RTI is expressly identified as the provider and receives the registration payment.
11. RTI logos and membership badges
Permission to use an RTI logo, membership badge or recognition mark is a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable permission.
Members may use only the logo or badge approved for their current membership or recognition category and must comply with the RTI Logo and Badge Use Terms.
Members must not:
- alter an RTI logo or badge;
- create an unofficial RTI mark;
- transfer a badge to another person or organisation;
- use a badge after the relevant membership or recognition has lapsed;
- use a badge in a misleading way; or
- imply that RTI endorses a particular clinical service, product or commercial claim.
Permission ends when the relevant membership, recognition or eligibility ends. RTI may require a former or ineligible member to remove the mark from websites, social media, certificates and promotional materials.
12. Organisational Membership
An organisation applying for membership must nominate an authorised representative to communicate with RTI.
The organisation is responsible for:
- ensuring that its application information is accurate;
- identifying trainers linked to its membership;
- ensuring linked trainers meet RTI requirements;
- updating RTI when a trainer leaves or becomes ineligible;
- controlling its organisational login; and
- ensuring that its representatives comply with applicable RTI policies.
Organisational Membership does not automatically grant individual membership to every employee, contractor, trainer or graduate of the organisation.
13. Privacy and membership records
RTI handles personal information in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable law.
As a Victorian incorporated association, RTI must maintain a register of members containing information required by law and the RTI Rules.
Members may have statutory rights to inspect the register. Access to and use of information from the register are restricted by law and the RTI Rules. Register information must not be used for unrelated commercial, promotional or personal purposes.
A member may ask the RTI Secretary to restrict access to their personal information where special circumstances justify the restriction. A member may chose not to publish their data.
The statutory member register is separate from the public professional directory. RTI will publish professional directory information and database only for the relevant directory purpose and with appropriate authority or consent.
Operational membership communications, renewal notices and governance notices are not marketing communications. Consent for promotional communications will be managed separately where required.
14. Complaints, discipline and eligibility reviews
Members are subject to the disciplinary, grievance and appeal procedures contained in the RTI Rules.
RTI will not suspend or expel a legal member outside the authority and procedures provided by those Rules.
RTI may investigate concerns relating to:
- membership eligibility;
- accuracy of credentials or directory information;
- misuse of RTI intellectual property;
- conduct affecting RTI or the integrity of Resource Therapy; or
- compliance with applicable RTI policies.
Members will ordinarily be given notice of significant concerns and a reasonable opportunity to respond, subject to the procedures in the RTI Rules.
RTI may take proportionate interim administrative action, such as temporarily hiding a directory entry, where reasonably necessary to prevent public confusion or misleading information while a matter is reviewed. RTI will seek independent agencies as necessary for mediation.
15. Resignation and cessation
A member may resign by giving written notice to RTI in accordance with the RTI Rules.
Membership may also cease through:
- resignation;
- expulsion following the process in the Rules;
- death or dissolution of the member;
- failure to pay membership fees for the period specified in the Rules; or
- another circumstance recognised by the Rules or applicable law.
Membership rights are not transferable and end when membership ceases.
Resignation, lapse, suspension or cessation does not ordinarily entitle the member to a full or pro-rata refund. Refund rights are governed by the RTI Refunds and Cancellations Policy and applicable law.
16. Changes to these terms
RTI may update these terms to reflect changes in:
- the RTI Rules;
- membership services;
- technology and payment arrangements;
- professional standards; or
- legal and regulatory obligations.
RTI will provide reasonable notice of a material change where practicable.
These terms cannot amend RTI’s registered Rules. Any change requiring an alteration of the Rules, a special resolution or another formal governance process will not take effect merely because it appears on the website.
17. Australian and international law
RTI is incorporated in Victoria, Australia. These terms are governed by the laws applying in Victoria, Australia.
Nothing in these terms excludes any right that cannot lawfully be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law or another applicable law.
International members may also have mandatory rights or obligations under the laws of their country. Members are responsible for complying with the professional, consumer, privacy and title requirements applicable in their jurisdiction.
