Our commitment

Resource Therapy International Inc. (RTI) is committed to making our website, information and online services accessible and inclusive.

We want people to be able to engage with RTI regardless of disability, age, language, location, technology or level of digital experience.

Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility. We are continuing to review and improve our website as our international association and digital services develop.

Accessibility standard

RTI aims to work towards meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA wherever reasonably practicable.

These internationally recognised guidelines explain how to make digital content more accessible for people with visual, hearing, physical, speech, cognitive, learning and neurological disabilities.

Our approach is also informed by the Australian Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth) and guidance published by the Australian Human Rights Commission.

What we are working to provide

As we review and update the RTI website, our accessibility priorities include:

  • clear, consistent page structures and headings;
  • plain and understandable language;
  • meaningful alternative text for important images;
  • sufficient colour contrast between text and backgrounds;
  • readable text that can be enlarged;
  • keyboard-accessible navigation and controls;
  • descriptive links that make sense out of context;
  • accessible online forms and instructions;
  • captions, transcripts or alternatives for important video and audio content where practicable;
  • accessible downloadable documents where practicable; and
  • layouts that work across desktop computers, tablets and mobile devices.

We also aim to avoid unnecessary flashing, excessive animation and design elements that may make content difficult to read or navigate.

Current accessibility status

The RTI website is being progressively reviewed and updated. We have not yet completed an independent accessibility audit and therefore do not claim that every page or item of content fully conforms to WCAG 2.2 Level AA.

Some content may not yet be fully accessible. This may include:

  • older downloadable documents;
  • images created before accessibility practices were introduced;
  • video or audio content without complete captions or transcripts;
  • embedded maps, payment platforms or forms;
  • content provided through third-party websites or services; and
  • archived material.

Third-party platforms are partly controlled by their respective providers. RTI will nevertheless seek accessible alternatives or assistance where reasonably possible.

Requesting assistance or an alternative format

If you experience difficulty accessing any part of the website, please contact us via this form. We will make reasonable efforts to:

  • provide the information in a more accessible format;
  • explain the information by email;
  • assist you to complete an online process; or
  • provide another reasonable way to access the relevant service.

Alternative formats may include an accessible Word document, plain-text email, larger text or another format appropriate to the request.

Accessibility feedback

We welcome feedback from people with lived experience of disability and from anyone who encounters an accessibility barrier.

  • the webpage address or name of the document;
  • a brief description of the problem;
  • the device and browser you were using, if known;
  • any assistive technology you were using, if you are comfortable sharing this; and
  • the format or assistance that would be most useful.

You are not required to disclose a disability or provide medical information to request accessibility assistance.

RTI aims to acknowledge accessibility enquiries within five business days. Resolving some technical problems may take longer, but we will keep you informed where practicable.

Ongoing improvement

RTI will continue to review accessibility when:

  • adding or redesigning website pages;
  • introducing new membership or directory systems;
  • publishing documents and educational resources;
  • selecting third-party platforms; and
  • responding to accessibility feedback.

This statement will be reviewed as the website and relevant accessibility standards develop.
